Why study Muslim Youth Work?
With more than 50% of the UK’s British Muslim communities aged under 25, the need for professionally trained youth workers who can understand and help respond to the challenges facing Muslim young people increases daily.
The University of Chester Degree in Muslim Youth Work offers the only professionally endorsed, internationally recognised training programme in the UK, specially designed to integrate Islamic values and generic youth work practices. The aim being to equip youth workers to empower young people from all backgrounds, faiths and cultures but also have the specialist knowledge and skills to address the specific challenges facing British Muslim young people.
What will I be taught?
Muslims youth work studies centre on the core skills of professional youth work. This will include such topics as: working with individuals and groups, curriculum development, informal education, management skills. This is complemented with studies of issues within Muslim communities and Muslim studies, social context, policies and organisation and contemporary culture, young people’s religion and culture.
Where will I be taught?
Teaching now in its third year, takes place on the Warrington campus and in fieldwork placement locations. The Warrington campus of the University of Chester gives ready access to the cities of Manchester and Liverpool as well as near by towns and cities such as Bolton, Burnley, Blackburn and Bradford.
